Mundan 2013 Muhurat
Chaul mundan or chura karan is the Hindu ceremony of clearing off or shaving the hairs on head of a child. It is the time or a ceremony when a childs head is shaved. It is mentioned in the scriptures that the Chaula mundan ceremony must be performed before a child gets a year old. Other age is also mentioned if head shaving ceremony cannot be performed at the specified age due to some or the other reasons. How is mundan performed?
It is believed to get the mundan ceremony conducted at a holy pilgrimage or near a water source. The hair of the child after shaving is offered to the river or any running source of water. After shaving the hair on the childs head, Om is written on it and the elders of the family give him blessings to have a prosperous and healthy life. However, it is perfectly fine to perform the mundan or chura karan ceremony at home. The only thing to be performed later is to flow the hair in a water source.
Significance of mundan
In Hinduism, shaving the head of the child at a specific age is considered very significant. Chura karan is one of the 16 samskaras in Hinduism. It is believed that the hair of the child were formed in his mothers womb, therefore it can have certain bad influences upon the child. The removal of first hairs on the childs head aims at the development of mind, intellect, health and a long life. The simple aim of chura karan is to put the mind of child to the best use. A person with good mind carries good thoughts and his deeds are such that encourage others to follow him. He benefits the society with his intelligence.
The childs first hair signifies his past karma in his past life. The head is shaved off in the ceremony so that he can get rid of his past and moves toward future.
