Chinese New Year & other Important Holidays

The start of the year in China begins on the day of the new moon which occurs in middle of winter solstice and spring equinox. This also means the celebration of Spring Festival or Chinese New Year that goes on for a week. This festival is also the time to worship deities as well as appeasing ancestors as per Chinese traditions. Furthermore, there are seven official public holidays in China, among which, Chinese New Year and National Day are celebrated for continuous three days.

An important fact about Chinese Holidays: The holidays in mainland China has an important feature which is that the weekends are swapped with weekdays (next to the actual holidays), so as to create a longer holiday period.
