Legends and mythologies associated to Akshaya Tritiya

While celebrating Akshaya Tritiya, it is a good idea to know the legend behind this festival. The day of Akshaya Tritiya is considered to be very pious. The day is believed to be the beginning of Satyug and Treta Yug. Anything initiated on Akshay Tritiya is considered to diminish till eternity.

In Hinduism, it is believed that on Akshaya Tritiya, lord Ganesha started writing the epic Mahabharata, as per the Veda Vyas dictation. The day of Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be ruled by god Vishnu. Lord Vishnu is the preserver of the world. The day is also celebrated as the birthday of Hindu sage Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of lord Vishnu. It was on Akshaya Tritiya that the holy Ganges descended to the earth from the heaven.

He was too poor to offer anything to Lord Krishna, so he took rice with him and offered to his friend. Sudama did not discuss anything about his poverty to his closest friend. As he returned home, he was amazed to see that his hut has changed into a huge and beautiful palace.

It was on Akshaya Tritiya that Dushasana, brother of Duryodhana, unveiled Draupadi at the royal court. Lord Krishna protected the dignity of Draupadi by providing her the never ending veil.
