Meaning Of Vidyarambh Sanskar

Regarding Vidyarambh Sanskar, there is a popular shloka/saying in Sanskrit:

“विद्यया लुप्यते पापं विद्यायाऽयुः प्रवर्धते।
विद्याया सर्वसिद्धिः स्याद्विद्ययाऽमृतमश्रुते।।”

“vidyayā lupyate pāpaṃ vidyāyā'yuḥ pravardhate।
vidyāyā sarvasiddhiḥ syādvidyayā'mṛtamaśrute।।”

The above verse means that whenever a person recites any of the Vedas, the knowledge obtained from it purifies the soul and eliminates all the sins. This adds to the longevity of a person, and that person becomes capable of achieving the objectives of life and marking his/her journey. It has also been mentioned in many scriptures that people who live their lives without wise knowledge and life lessons remain deprived of benefits obtained from Dharma, Artha, Moksha and Karma. This is why performing the Vidyarambh Ceremony as per the auspicious muhurat and age of the child is considered significant.

During the Vidyarambh Sanskar Ceremony, the prospective parents venerate Lord Ganesha and Maa Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, while organizing a Hawan and wishing for their child’s bright future. It is only after this ritual is performed when the child learns to write for the first time with the assistance of his/her parents. According to Hinduism, usually, the child is made to write the holy word "ॐ / ūm̐" in Sanskrit or Hindi for the first time.

However, in different states of India, people carry out this ritual as per their family and local traditions. But despite this, people usually adopt this ritual only. During this event, the child is first taught to write on a slate or paper with either chalk, pen or rice. However, one thing to keep in mind while performing the ritual is that all these steps must be carried out during the auspicious Vidyarambh Sanskar Muhurat calculated on the basis of the child’s kundli.

Vidyarambh Sanskar Muhurat 2021

The main motive of performing the Vidyarambh Sanskar in 2021 is to familiarize the child with the primary level of education for the first time after birth. As like any task is performed under an auspicious muhurat in order to acquire fruitful results, parents consult an astrologer or priest for an auspicious time to be calculated based on the birth details of the child along with the position of planets, nakshatras and other elements. This time is known as Vidyarambh Sanskar Muhurat.

In Hinduism, any auspicious task or ceremony must be performed within an auspicious time. It is believed that a good education will help the child thrive in life, which is why this ceremony must be performed with the blessings of Gods and Goddesses, parents and the Ruling Deity for a bright future.

These rites have existed since ancient times. At the time when the tradition of attending Gurukuls was prominent, this ritual was popularly carried out with proper rituals. During that time, the children were taught letters and Akshars at home before starting on their academic journey. After this, children used to practice and recite Slokas and tales orally. While introducing them to the Vedas to the children, they were taught about discipline and staying at the Ashram. The important thing at that time was that even before the beginning, the 'Vidyarambh Sanskar' for the child was conducted. This indicated that the child is now able to intake knowledge regarding Vedas and scriptures. Hence, it is important to know the significance and benefits of Vidyarambh Muhurat 2021.

Astrological Facts Related To Vidyarambh Ceremony 2021

In order to perform Vidyarambh Sanskar in 2021, a difference of opinion can be seen among our expert astrologers regarding the order. Because where some Acharyas believe that it should be done only after Annaprashan, other scholars suggest that it should be done after the Chudakram Ceremony i.e. Mundan Sanskar. Here, it is believed that the child doesn’t develop speaking skills at the time of Annaprashan, however until the Mundan Sanskar, such tendencies related to learning and speaking start to develop. This is why most experts consider it appropriate to perform this ritual only after the Mundan Ceremony.

The “impure” hair on the child’s head is shaved and purified, after which he/she becomes eligible to attain knowledge and education. With Vidyarambh Sanskar, the child is made to start his/her journey in life while instilling a sense of intellectual curiosity and wisdom. During this time, the parents of the child also take an oath in front of the Gods and Goddesses and aim to work with enthusiasm to fulfil all the needs of their child. Through Vidyarambh Sanskar, the boy/girl is formally introduced to his/her Guru, Parents and Teachers for the first time in his/her life.
