Telangana Holidays 2020 Muharram is known as Peerla Panduga in Telangana, and observed as one of the major Telangana holidays. On this day, an ancient relic called Alam is carried out in the procession at the Ashurkhana and worshipped. This festival witnesses the participation of many Muslims as well as Hindus. It is said that the Hindus respect the sorrowful sentiments of this day by paying their homage and participating in the activities.
Babu Jagjivan Ram Jayanti is observed as a public holiday in the state of Telangana and marks the birth anniversary of Jagjivan Ram, fondly called as Babuji. Jagjivan Ram was a well-known Indian independence activist and played a significant role in laying the foundation of the All-India Depressed Classes League, an organization for untouchables set up with the aim of attaining equality.
Bonalu is one of the popular Telangana holidays 2020 and dedicated to Goddess Mahakali as a thanksgiving festival. Every year, the Goddess is thanked for her blessings by performing the rituals with great devotion and offering her Bonam or meal. This festival is observed with great fervour at Secunderabad and Hyderabad. On this occasion, women cook a sweetened rice pudding with milk, rice and jaggery in a new pot or vessel, decorate it with vermillion, turmeric and neem leaves and carry it to the Mahakali temple. The Goddess is then offered a saree, turmeric, kumkum, bangles and the food.
Telangana festival Bathukamma commemorates the commencement of Sharad season or winters and is observed by Hindu women before Dussehra. A flower stack called Bathukamma is arranged, where seasonal flowers with medicinal value are arranged concentrically in a shape of the Gopuram temple. Women and young girls gather in an open area with their Bathukamma and perform folk dances and songs. On the last day, they take those stacks and immerse them in the water.
