Veer Kunvar Singh Jayanti

The Veer Kunvar Singh Jayanti is one of the Bihar Holiday Calendar 2020 in commemoration of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, a leader in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The 80-year-old led a faction of the army in the revolt against the Britishers and East India Company. His skills tormented the British forces for almost a year. An expert in guerilla warfare, his manoeuvres left the Britishers bewildered, and unable to win against him. When a bullet shattered his left wrist during a battle, understanding that the hand was now useless and also generated a possibility of infection; he cut it off from the elbow and gave it as an offering to the holy river Ganges. The second day, Kharna, is for a day-long nirjala fast; while on Sandhya Arghya, the third day, natives present offerings to the Sun in the evening after the fast. The third day is the hardest, as people observe the strictest fasting, and then offer coconut, fruits, and flowers on a bamboo tray to the Sun, while standing knee-deep in water, in the evening (Sandhya).
