Islamic Calendar 2024 History And Background
The Hijri calendar used today is believed to be based on the pre-Islamic calendar used by ancient Arabic and uses the same month names. It was a lunisolar calendar in which the lengths of the months were changed according to the phases of the moon, and a leap month (nasi) was added to realign the time count with the ordinary solar year. To create a pure lunar calendar after the Muslim conquest of Mecca, the leap month was abolished.
According to the Iranian astronomer Al-Biruni (973-1048 CE), Caliph Umar (c.583 - 644 CE) introduced the computation of the Islamic year in 638 CE. Year numbers were not utilized in pre-Islamic time calculation since each year was marked by a significant event that occurred in it.

The ninth month of the year is considered the month of Roza and fasting in the Hijri calendar. The next month begins with Eid al-Fitr, one of Islam's two great feasts. Following this, the twelfth and final month is reserved for pilgrimage and Hajj to Dhul-Hijjah. Eid ul-Azha, the Muslim religion's second holiest celebration, occurs after pilgrimage.
Talking about other notable days for Muslims, the tenth of the first month of Muharram is usually observed. It is stated that on this day, Moses and the children of Israel were delivered from the clutches of Pharaoh. Aside from that, Hussain, the Prophet's grandson, was martyred on this day. As a result, many Muslims fast on this day, while Shia Muslims grieve. In Shawwal, it is customary to fast for 6 days. Although it is not mandatory for everyone. The Islamic New Year and the Prophet's birthday occur during the third month of Rabi ul Awal.
