The Process of Name Selection

Today people are getting modern and considering the name of their child without consideration. This is the reason you get to hear different child names. If we want to name your child using the religious & astrological way then there is a procedure to name selection.

In the Vedic period, there is mention of the practice of four types of names as follows, first - the placement of the name based on the Nakshatra of the child’s name is known as Nakshatra Naam. The name given at the time of caste work is referred to as Gupt Naam. The name kept at the time of the Naming Ceremony is referred to as the Vyavaharik Naam and finally, the name kept on the basis of special Yagya Karma is called Yagnik naam.

If you also want to do the naming ceremony based on the mentioned factors and also aspire to make the future of the child bright & happy then contact the learned astrologers for personal queries and answers.

Namkaran Muhurat 2024: Things To Take Care in the Ceremony

Let us move forward and understand the things advised to be taken care of in the Namkaran Muhurat as per religious beliefs. It is believed that from the time a child is in the mother’s womb to the end, there are sixteen sacraments and the naming ceremony is among the vital ones in the list.

  • The caste work is done as soon as the child is born. After it, the thread is applied and different durations are considered in the Sutak. Normally, it is considered auspicious to perform the naming ceremony 10 days after the birth of a child. However, there are also differences seen in them.
  • Also, the time from the birth of the child to the hundredth day is also considered auspicious for the ceremony.
  • The naming ceremony should be done at home itself. If you wish, visit a temple and perform Havan at the Yagya place.
  • To perform the puja of the day, make a swastika on the urn.
  • Tie a twine or silk thread in the child’s waist before bringing his/her to the place of worship.
  • Use a new plate at the time of the name announcement event in the ceremony.
  • Only Satvik food should be cooked at home on that day.
  • Special care or attention should be given to the name selection process. If you desire, then keep the name of the child as per the family deity. It is considered very auspicious to follow the procedure.
  • Also, the name of the child should be kept matching the position of the stars. Avoiding it can lead to misfortune in the child’s life.
  • It is considered inauspicious to keep the child’s name on Chaturthi Tithi, Navami Tithi, Chaturdashi Tithi, and Rikta Tithi.
  • It is auspicious to keep the name on Moon Day, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

  • Both mother and child should be taking some precautions on the naming ceremony day so that they don't face any difficulty and the ceremony gets completed flawlessly.
  • Get the right amount of sleep beforehand as both the child and the mother need to sit at the place of havan & worship for a longer timeline. Thus, it is crucial to complete the quota of sleep to avoid any tiredness and yawning at the event.
  • Wear a comfortable dress as per the season for the ceremony. It is suggested to both child & mother so that they don't face any kind of difficulty. Both can sit comfortably and enjoy the event.
  • Take care of the baby’s milk. The child is small during the time and might feel hungry repeatedly. Not getting the food at the right time will make him irritable and lead to crying. Take special care that the child’s stomach is not empty and involved in the ceremony.
