The Islamic calendar 2023, commonly referred to as the Lunar or Hijri calendar, is used by Muslims all over the world to calculate the dates of religious events and observances. The calendar is referred to as the Hijri calendar because it starts in the year that the Prophet moved from Medina, (the city where he served as the caliph and from which Islam developed and spread), to Mecca, (the city where he was born). This migration is referred to as the Hijri in Arabic.
A new month begins when a new moon is visible in the Islamic days list for 2023, which is based on 12 lunar months that are dependent on the movement of the moon, and because 12 synodic months are only 12 x 29.53=354.36 days. In addition, an Islamic month 2023 has 29 or 30 days depending on the year. In the event that the new crescent is seen on the twenty-ninth day, the new month will start the next day. On the 30th day of the month, if the crescent is not visible, after that a new month begins.
