Luck in your favour? Raj Yoga Report reveals it all!
The ear-piercing ceremony was previously performed on a boy and a girl alike according to the Indian traditions, but from the past 2 centuries, the ritual is restricted to females only. The right age to perform the Karnavedha Sanskar varies in different Hindu sects. While some people perform this on the 12th or 13th day after the child’s birth, others do it between the 3rd and the 6th month after the birth. In some sects, this ritual is performed on the 1st Nakshatra birthday of the child, along with the Ayush Honam Sanskar.
Nowadays, some people perform the Karnavedha Sanskar and Mundan ceremony on the same day, either when the child is in his eleventh month or at the odd years of age.
However, according to the modern era, it is considered safe to pierce the ears of a baby when he turns two months old. This is because this age falls at the same time as a baby’s first round of vaccinations, like the tetanus jab.
As per the Vedas, Karnavedha Sanskar is one of the most crucial parts of the sixteen sanskaras that an individual belonging to the Hindu community has to undergo, other sanskaras being birth, education, marriage, pregnancy, and others. It is a sacred ceremony that is performed on a child, and it is of utmost significance in the Brahman community than other sects of Hinduism. This holy ceremony is performed with different rituals like prayers and pujas.
This ear-piercing ceremony in 2022 holds great spiritual and symbolic significance. It is believed that by piercing the ears of a child, a child becomes open to receiving holy sounds, which will cleanse his mind and soul, and will nurture his spirits.
