Sikh Calendar 2021: Nanakshahi Calendar

Nanakshahi Calendar is a solar calendar used by the followers of Sikhism to calculate the dates for religious, cultural, and at times, administrative events. It is based on “Barah Maha”, translated as “Twelve Months” and created by the Gurus. As per the Sikh Calendar 2021, the year begins with the Sikh Month Chet, corresponding to 14th March as per Gregorian Calendar. The Nanakshahi Calendar commenced after the birth of the Divine Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the year 1469 CE. This is why the Sikh Calendar called Nanakshahi Calendar is named after Guru Nanak Dev Ji, also known to be the founder of Sikhism.
